Professional Development & Certifications

OLAP supports you in your efforts to find professional development opportunities to succeed as an online instructor. We have curated a variety of resources on professional development courses and certifications, professional organizations for online learning, conferences and research opportunities, and University policies and updates for online teaching and learning.

> Engaged Online Course Initiative

In conjunction with a cohort of UTK faculty and staff experienced with designing, developing, and evaluating online courses, OLAP has developed a rubric for course design and facilitation that may serve to evaluate online courses, allowing instructors to receive a designation that meets internal benchmarking.


> Brown Bag Fridays

Brown Bag Fridays highlight UT instructional faculty as they share strategies and recommendations for successful teaching, learning, and assessment online.


> Jumpstart

A mentored, one-semester intensive online course design and development program resulting in a completed, asynchronous online course.


> Online Teaching & Learning
Certificate Program

The Online Learning & Academic Programs (OLAP) and the Office of Information Technology (OIT) have partnered to create the Online Teaching & Learning Certificate program. The Online Teaching & Learning Certificate program, known as Online TLC, is a collection of self-paced modules designed to provide asynchronous training related to designing, developing, and delivering online courses.


> Graduate Students Certification Seminar

The Online Learning & Academic Programs (OLAP) and Teaching and Learning Innovation (TLI) will offer the Introduction to Online Teaching Certification Seminar for Graduate Students in Spring 2023. The Seminar is designed to introduce graduate students to online course design and pedagogy. This workshop is a part of TLI’s Developing Future Faculty series, and participants will earn a certificate at the end of the seminar.
