Online Teaching & Learning
Certificate Program

The Online Learning and the Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) have partnered to create the Online Teaching & Learning Certificate program. The Online Teaching & Learning Certificate program, known as Online TLC, is a collection of self-paced modules designed to provide asynchronous training related to designing, developing, and delivering online courses.

Whether you’re teaching online for the first time or you’re an experienced online instructor wanting more information about specific elements of course design and development, Online TLC is for you. Taken together, the three modules are designed to be your roadmap to successful teaching in an online or hybrid environment. This is a non-facilitated training where you can complete one, two, or all three modules at your own pace based on your own needs and interests.

Note: All three modules are housed in one Canvas course site.

Module 1

Online Course
Design

Course design is the process of planning a course: gathering course information and making decisions about how the course will be taught. This module offers instructors and developers a course design framework and resources to prepare an online course that is equal in academic quality and rigor to those taught in traditional, on-campus settings.

Module 2

Online Course
Development

Course development is the process of working out the details, such as course structure, drafting, and building out the course components. This module offers instructors strategies and tools to develop a robust Canvas course site that engages and supports students in their online learning experience.

Module 3

Online Course
Delivery & Management

Delivering and managing an online course takes time and effort. The strategies, techniques, and tips in this module will help prepare instructors to teach online, expose participants to various technologies, and draw attention to the importance of reflection and feedback for student success and future practice.

Estimated Time

The estimated time of completion for each module is 2-3 hours, but the user experience may vary. You are not required to complete all three modules. You can choose to complete modules individually.

Badges

There are three badge options within this course, one for each module. You have the option to earn one or all three badges. If you complete all three modules, you will earn a certificate of completion that you can save and print for your records.
