The Office of Online Learning & Academic Programs (OLAP) is proud to announce the development of the University of Tennessee’s Engaged Online Course Rubric (EOCR). With enormous effort and collaboration by the Engaged Online Course Initiative Cohort consisting of faculty and staff from across the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a completed Engaged Online Course Rubric (EOCR) is available for faculty use.
DEVELOPING A RUBRIC
Although there will be many opportunities for more robust review solutions in the coming months, this checklist self-review document is now available for download.
After extensive evaluation of trusted research-based industry-standard rubrics, specifically Quality Matters and SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSQCR), we feel confident the EOCR provides the best online course evaluation available.
The EOCR contains a set of guidelines that represent research-based best practices in online course design and development. There are seven general standards that cover essential aspects of a quality online course at UTK. Each of the general standards is expanded upon to include specific details which can help determine whether the standard has been met, has not been met or is not applicable, due to the course content, curriculum, or discipline. These guidelines and the accompanying criteria can be used by instructional faculty to self-asses the quality of their online courses, or by a peer reviewer to provide valuable feedback to a colleague.
